The image above was taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter in July of this year, and shows a massive sand pit that’s an opening to a subterranean cavern. What sort of Martian wonders exist in this cavern? Nobody knows, but there’s quite a few of these that have been found on Mars so far. And from the shadows, the estimate is that it’s about 65 feet from the opening to the cave...
